Joining an Early Career Researcher Editorial Board: My Experience
by Alejandro Ortiz-Hernández
Joining the editorial board of an academic journal might seem unattainable for early career researchers – but as Alejandro Ortiz-Hernández tells us, getting involved with a journal is a great way to develop new skills and grow your career. Here’s what he had to say:
Hello, everyone! My name is Alejandro Ortiz-Hernández, and I am a Medical Doctor, having graduated from the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí (UASLP), located in Mexico. My research interests revolve around Neglected Tropical Diseases and HIV/AIDS, and I am deeply passionate about Infectious Diseases, Global Health, and Humanitarian Aid.
Working as part of the Early Career Researcher Editorial Board on Therapeutic Advances in Infectious Disease (TAID) has been a dream come true for me as a young researcher. I must emphasize that TAID knows no borders; it warmly welcomes medical students, young researchers, and senior professionals, regardless of nationality.
Throughout this journey, I have had the privilege of working alongside the exceptional TAID team. I had the honor of serving as the President of the Committee for the 20th International Medical Congress of the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí (UASLP), a remarkable event organized by medical students from my city. The journal provided invaluable assistance in terms of logistics, media exposure, and publication of all Abstracts presented at the Congress, promoting scientific knowledge and empowering Latino medical students.
I have had the pleasure of publishing two papers based on my research in the journal. I assure you that you will receive ample guidance and support throughout the submission process. The quality of the reviewers is commendable, to say the least.

I am honored to be an Early Career Researcher associated with the journal, which has proven to be an incredible opportunity for my professional growth. I have extended invitations to colleagues and researchers from my country to publish their work with TAID, and their feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and appreciative of the journal's contributions. Additionally, I have had the privilege of representing the journal at various events, including the National Latinx Conference on HIV/HCV and SUD in New Mexico.
If you wish to learn more about the journal and the remarkable work we do here, please do not hesitate to contact me or a member of the Editorial Team. It would be our utmost pleasure to speak with you.
