Tools to Support Researchers, Grad Students, and Instructors in this Mess-of-a-Time

By Olivia Butze, Senior Corporate Communications Associate

What is the best way to publish my research on COVID-19? How can I continue my PhD research while off campus? Where can I learn more about virtual teaching and learning solutions?

There are many unknowns right now, but we at SAGE do know that researchers will be critical to addressing the challenges of COVID-19, from both a medical standpoint and in understanding its social and behavioral impact on society. We also know that instructors will be paramount to ensuring students receive the support they need during the transition to learning online.

In order to support the higher education teaching and research communities, SAGE has taken a number of steps:

·       We are fast tracking and publishing open access research relevant to the current pandemic, without article publishing charges.

·       We’ve created a research collection with free-to-read medical research from SAGE related to the virus as well as social and behavioral research to help decision-makers deal with the outbreak and its impact.

·       We’ve removed the subscription gateway to a curated list of articles related to COVID-19 and pandemics and have signed onto the Wellcome statement on sharing research related to COVID-19.

·       We’ve launched a hub on our Social Science Space community site with social and behavioral science insights and tips about dealing with the virus and its consequences, as well as research on teaching virtually (interested in contributing? Email us).

·       We’ve built dedicated websites with free materials to support online teaching, including eTextbook access and courseware options:

o   US teaching and research materials

o   UK teaching and research materials

o   All other regions

For early career researchers, our (free) How to Get Published in an Academic Journal webinar and course share valuable insights on the publishing process. Additionally, on Tuesday, April 7th at 4 PM BST/ 11 AM EDT/ 8 AM PDT, we will be hosting a live Twitter Q&A session with publishing editors available to answer any questions the research community might have. Please tweet your questions by tagging @SAGE_Publishing and using #HTGPQA. Then, make sure to follow our Q&A session via @SAGE_Publishing.

Finally, please email info@sagepub.com with requests and suggestions as to how SAGE can make your life easier. We are committed to supporting you as together we navigate this difficult time.
