Introducing our panelists: 

Jennifer Lovick 

Jennifer Lovick, PhD, is an Executive Editor in the Open Access Journals department at Sage Publishing in Thousand Oaks, California. She received her PhD in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology from UCLA in 2015 and joined Sage Publishing in 2016. Jennifer is the Executive Editor of the Gold Open Access journal Technology in Cancer Research & Treatment (IF 2.7; CiteScore 4.4) and manages a team of in-house Managing Editors who work on a broad portfolio of health and biomedical journals. Jennifer is also involved in a variety of in-house projects that focus on marketing, peer review, and research ethics. 

Hemi Malkki 

Hemi Malkki, PhD, is an Executive Editor based at Sage’s London office. After obtaining a MSc in neurobiology (University of Helsinki) and PhD in neuroscience (University of Amsterdam), she embarked on her publishing career at BioMed Central, where she coordinated peer review across a range of clinical and life sciences titles in the BMC series portfolio. She then worked at Nature Reviews Neurology as Senior Editor before joining Sage in 2016. Besides managing Therapeutic Advances in Neurological Disorders, a leading gold open access journal in clinical neurology (IF 4.7, CiteScore 9.0), she oversees peer review processes and training at Sage’s Open Access Journals. 

Michaela Christodoulaki 

Michaela Christodoulaki obtained her PhD in Cancer Immunology from the University of Southampton, UK in 2023 and also holds a BSc from the University of Bristol, UK in Cancer Biology and Immunology. She is currently a Managing Editor in the Open Access Journals department (Journal of International Medical Research, IF 1.4 and Science Progress, IF 2.6) at Sage Publishing, based in London, UK. She is involved in editorial outreach, peer review process and decision making of medical papers. 

Applonia Rose 

Applonia Rose, PhD, is a Managing Editor in the Open Access Journals division at Sage Publishing, based in London, UK. She is the Deputy Editor of Technology in Cancer Research & Treatment (IF: 2.7). Her primary role is to oversee the peer review processes for the journal, while also leading initiatives in Editorial Board development and Special Collections. Applonia obtained her PhD in Biomedical Sciences from KU Leuven, Belgium.   

Sean Scarisbrick 

Sean Scarisbrick is a Marketing Manager on the Author Marketing team at Sage. His primary role is to provide support to authors and reviewers as they move through the publishing process, with a particular focus on providing targeted resources to provide support at the appropriate time in the publication process. He holds a BA in history from Manhattan College and a MA in history from Hunter College, and is based out of New York.
