Vascular Medicine Journal Enters 25th Year of Publication
Vascular Medicine journal (Impact Factor: 2.786) enters its 25th year of publication with a series of changes to rejuvenate its leadership team including expansion of the Vascular Medicine Editorial Board to include 11 new members (88 total) and provide expanded multispecialty perspective and more diversified experience in vascular medicine research.
Next Generation Editorial Board Program
Five of the 11 new members comprise the first class of the VMJ Next Generation Editorial Board – a program designed to ensure the longevity of our Journal for another 25 years. The Journal selected the top 5 candidates from 15 outstanding applicants, all of whom demonstrated a strong commitment to the field of vascular medicine. This group will work closely with the Editorial Office over the next 3 years in honing peer review and editing skills as well as learning broader aspects of medical publishing including content dissemination, journal metrics, and publication ethics. We welcome Pulkit Chaudhury (University of Iowa), Amy Harwood (University of Sydney), Stanislav Henkin (Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center), Qurat-ul-ain Jelani (Yale University), and Mary Whipple (University of Colorado) to this program.
Editorial Leadership Team
The journal welcomes 3 new Associate Editors for the 2020-2022 term: Drs. Scott Cameron (Cleveland Clinic), Umberto Campia (Brigham and Women’s Hospital), and Teresa Carman (University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center / Case Western Reserve University [CWRU]), who join continuing Associate Editors Drs. Ehrin Armstrong (University of Colorado), William Hiatt (University of Colorado), Esther Kim (Vanderbilt University Medical Center), and Tara Mastracci (Royal Free Hospital NHS Foundation Trust). The Journal gratefully acknowledges the generous 6-year service of outgoing Associate Editors Drs. Naomi Hamburg (Boston University) and Mehdi Shishehbor (University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center / CWRU).
The Journal is pleased to announce a number of additional changes to its leadership. Dr. Daniella Kadian-Dodov (Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai) will take over as Images section Editor from Dr. Steven Dean (The Ohio State University), who served for two terms and was a most valuable asset to the Journal in this role. Drs. Natalie Evans (University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center / CWRU) and Elizabeth Ratchford (Johns Hopkins University) will continue as editors of the highly downloaded Vascular Disease Patient Information Pages and Dr. Aditya Sharma (University of Virginia Health System) will continue as our CME editor. Dr. Sue Duval (University of Minnesota) will continue as Statistical Consultant.
VMJ Social Media
Vascular Medicine’s social media presence (Twitter: @VMJ_SVM) has experienced tremendous growth during the past 3 years, thanks to Dr. Geoff Barnes (University of Michigan Health System). In 2020, Dr. Alec Schmaier (Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center / Harvard Medical School) will assume the role of Social Media Editor. The Journal tweets almost daily and currently has over 3500 followers (up from 1300 in 2016).
Editor in Chief’s Vision for the Journal
According to Heather Gornik, MD, FSVM (University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center / CWRU), Editor in Chief of Vascular Medicine and Immediate Past-President of the Society for Vascular Medicine:
“I am looking forward to the next 3 years of working with the Editorial Board and continuing our journey to making VMJ the must-read journal in the vascular space. We still have much work to do, but we have made great progress in the past 6 years. I’m particularly excited to engage with our Next Generation Editorial Board and our new Associate Editors and Editorial Board members and trust they will bring new enthusiasm and ideas to VMJ. Our Editorial Board is the lifeblood of our journal, and I think our Editorial Board is stronger than ever.”
All members of the VMJ Editorial Board, including the Associate Editors, work on a volunteer basis as a service to the vascular medicine community and the Society for Vascular Medicine. The Journal is incredibly grateful for their time, energy, and expertise.
The Journal receives approximately 500 submissions per year, with acceptance of approximately 20%.
