How to Get Published in an Academic Journal Webinar Recap

By Jessica Lipowski

Millions of journal articles are published each year, and every day researchers are placing the finishing touch on their manuscripts, getting ready to submit their research for publication. Here at SAGE, we recognize how challenging it can be for authors to find the right home for their paper and feel confident that their manuscript will be sent out by the Editor for peer review.

Earlier this week, we held a webinar covering how to get published in an academic journal. A group of panelists and I held a free one-hour webinar to share our tips and tricks to increase the chances of getting accepted. You can download the PowerPoint slides here and watch the entire webinar recording on YouTube.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

SAGE Author Group Marketing Manager Rehannah Karim kicked off the informative webinar, and then I walked authors through the publishing journey, from the thought-provoking questions researchers should ask themselves before even conducting research, to tips on how to write the actual manuscript, to what the peer review process entails. Our five panelists then shared their valuable experiences, tips, tricks, and findings. We were joined by

  • Dr. Mary Beth Genter, Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Toxicology

  • Heather Getha-Taylor, Editor-in-Chief of Public Personnel Management

  • Richard Stackman PhD, co Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Management Inquiry

  • Dr. Paul Terry, Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Health Promotion

  • Professor Catherine Walshe, Editor-in-Chief of Palliative Medicine

The audience asked some very insightful questions, some of which we covered in the session. We plan to address the submitted queries by reaching out directly in the appropriate instance, and as a basis for creating future blog posts and additional resources that will be available to all.

A very big thank you to everyone who joined on Tuesday, March 3; the turnout was incredible, with more than 3,000 people registered. Thank you for your thoughtful questions, which led to an engaging discussion. We look forward to providing additional resources and tools to help you along the way in your research journey.
